Special Olympics Basketball and Cheer

There is always a dance at the state meets. This is a huge event for all the athletes.
Rachel and her basketball coach John.
The cheer team and coaches
We have several families of athletes dealing with cancer right now. A couple other parents got together and had these pink shirts made to wear at the state meet in their honor. This is who Rachel stayed with at the hotel.

Rachel went on a trip all by herself at the same time Lindsay and I were in St. Louis. It just happened that Special Olympics basketball and cheer state meet was the very same time as the choir trip. I debated a long time whether to send her with the team or not. I'm glad I let her go because she had a great time. They chartered a bus this time instead of getting big vans. This meet is in Hays and it is a long way out there from Lawrence. It was much easier for everyone doing it this way. They got a gold medal in cheer and a 4th place ribbon in basketball. She stayed in the same room with her basketball coaches wife and 2 daughters. The only problem I know about was they couldn't get her out of bed in the mornings. That's nothing new. She is just not a morning person. This weekend she starts swimming and track and field.

Looks like both girls had a great time! I can't believe how grown up your family is. All I can think is, "Not me! I'm not going to let that happen. Nuh-uh."

I have sympathy for the getting of bed early part. I have the same problem - only now that I'm back from AK I have an excuse for two more hours because of the time change!
